Welcome to Agility From the Ground Up, a series of classes beginning with the fundamentals. Or… think of it as a circle of enthusiasts who are committed to learning the many aspects of the sport while helping their dogs excel.

The pressure is off and the fun is on!

All classes and instruction given are based on the science of animal learning. Behaviors are build step-by-step using reinforcement as well as the use of a marker (clicker).

The goal here is to make sure handlers and their dogs are successful in understanding and executing the task at hand before moving forward with more advanced work.

(Mini) Course 1:
Covers learning theory (how dogs learn, including clicker training) reward procedures, good agility practices (safety, handling and focus work) and an introduction to working with simple “equipment”

Course 2:
Will include: Strategies to get your dog “fired” and focused on the training, teaching dogs how to go around, between, over and under different pieces of “equipment” and building confidence around noise.

Course 3:
We hone in teaching our dogs proprioception (how they use their body in space). Dogs will have an opportunity to learn awareness and control of their rear end by learning how to step with precision forward, backward and sideways – all required when engaged in the sport; as well as Starts and Stays.

Courses 4, 5 and 6:
Will cover jumps and tunnels; fine-tune our handling system and communication with the dog by using proper body language as well as contact obstacles.

Dates & Times for Mini-course 1 (AG1): Saturdays from 11-12 noon. Oct. 14th, 21st, 28th Nov. 4th, 11th and 18th

Trainer: Almudena Ortiz Cué M.A. CTC, CPDT, Tellington TTouch™ Cert.

Pre-requisites: Dogs must be 5 months or older to participate and at least one year of age for courses 4, 5 and 6.

First class orientation- no dogs.

Semi-private open to 4 guardians and 4 dogs.

CHACO’s 1 hour long Monthly CLINICS: November’s Clinic is on Crate Training @ C.H.A.C.O.'s Hub in Tesuque
Nov 4 @ 9:30 am – 10:30 am

Screen Shot 2017-09-14 at 5.47.15 PMThese one hour long clinics are action packed (or information packed) topic- centered classes that are designed to address specific behaviors or problem areas such as: not coming when called, walking on a loose leash, techniques used for fear and aggression, crate training, focus and attention issues, mental stimulation games, agility, basic obedience reliability, etc. They are held once a month at CHACO’s hub in Tesuque. The day and time can vary month to month. Open to 4 handlers and their dogs.

Pre-requisite: No prior training experienced needed. However, since a group class can be a stressful environment for some dogs, this class is not appropriate for dogs that lunge, bark or snarl at people or other dogs. If your dog suffers from severe fear or aggression consider private training as a great first step before joining a group class.

Required Vaccinations: Rabies, DHLPP (distemper & parvo). Proof of vaccination required. Or titer test results in lieu of DHLPP vaccines.

Trainer: Almudena Ortiz Cué M.A. CTC, CPDT, Tellington TTouch Cert.

NOTE: Almudena will be e-mailing class participants 3 days  prior to class meeting with information as what to bring, directions to site etc. A minimum of 2  people must be signed up (and have paid) for class to run. Sign up closes three days prior to course date.

Open to 4 people and their dogs.  Please contact me if you need to borrow a crate. I will do my best to help out if I have the right crate available.

Fee: $40.00 (Santa Fe county tax included)
